The Hamilton Children’s Choir (HCC) can add another plaque to their growing wall of awards.  On Sunday October 18, 2009,  they were announced as the winners of the European Broadcasting Union 2009 “Let the People Sing” EuroRadio Choral Competition in the Children’s Choir Category.  The choir competed in Oslo, Norway, yesterday from the Glenn Gould Studio in downtown Toronto via live audio satellite.  The competition included choirs from Estonia, Poland, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Latvia, Finland and Norway.  The Hamilton choir listened to the live broadcast, which will be played in numerous countries throughout the coming days.

CBC Radio will be playing the highlights on Sunday Oct 25th in “Choral Concert”.

The NOVA Chamber Choir from Norway was named winner of the adult category, and the Girls’ Chamber Choir of the Diocesan Classical Gymnasium of Slovenia was named winner of the Youth Choir Category, as well as being awarded the Silver Rose Bowl Grand Prize.  “It’s an honour to just be present in a competition of this level,” director Zimfira Poloz said in an interview from the Glen Gould Studio.  “These choirs all sing at such a high level, and it was great for our choristers to share the international airwaves with some of the best in the world.”

The LTPS Choral Competition is a major international choral event where the atmosphere of the final is intense and music level is very high. To be considered for this bi-annual competition, radio broadcasters select, record and enter choirs in the competition.

The Hamilton Children’s Choir is the only Canadian choir to have been selected as a finalist in this world known competition.
