Nova Scotia Choral Federation Announces Choral Composition Competition

An exciting opportunity for young composers to have a work performed for the Nova Scotia Youth Choir's 20th Anniversary, conducted by Diane Loomer.

The Nova Scotia Youth Choir is celebrating its 20th year! To help commemorate this anniversary, the Nova Scotia Choral Federation is announcing a Choral Competition for young Canadian composers.

Comprised of 35-40 talented singers aged 16 to 25 auditioned from around the province, these youth are provided a challenging opportunity to work, develop and perform choral music together under the leadership of talented local educators and accomplished Canadian conductors. The 2010 guest conductor will be Diane Loomer.

The applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 30. The winner will receive a monetary prize of $1000.00 as well as 2 premiere performances of the work by the NSYC, conducted by Diane Loomer,
on October 2nd and 3rd, 2010.

Composition Requirements:
• Must be original work
• 4-6 minutes in length
• Scored for mixed voices (Maximum split of SSAATB), a cappella or with piano accompaniment
• The text source must appear on the music. If the text is in a language other than English, please include a literal translation.
• Words should be clearly indicated beneath all the vocal parts.
• If there is accompaniment, it should be written beneath the vocal parts.
• Include all necessary tempo indications.
• All rights to each composition remain with the composer.

Applications package must include:
• 5 hard copies of the score. 4 copies must be free of any accreditation to the composer, as it will be judged by a blind jury
• Proof of permission of use for any copyrighted text not in public domain
• Applicant’s Musical Resume
• $25.00 Application Fee
• More than one entry may be submitted, but each entry must be accompanied by a separate entry form.
