Grand Philharmonic Choir Launches Composition Competition

A new choral composing contest, open to Canadian composers aged 30 or under, is being launched by the Grand Philharmonic Choir.

"Through this contest, we hope to add to the great depth of Canadian choir repertoire by showcasing the work of young, exciting composers," said the choir's artistic director, Mark Vuorinen.

The Kitchener-based organization operates four choirs: a large symphonic choir; a chamber ensemble; a youth choir and a children's choir. Each year, a different ensemble will give the premiere of the winning work.

The juried contest offers a prize of $1,500. This year's contest is for large adult choir and has a deadline of November 15. The winning work will receive its premiere in February 2018. For details, visit the choir's website at www.grandphilchoir.com/compositioncontest
