Lirit Women's Chamber Choir - Call for New Works, 2018

Lirit Women's Chamber Choir is inviting all composers, either living in Canada or of Canadian citizenship, to submit unpublished works. The chosen composition will be performed by Lirit during their 2018/19 season. The winning composition will be announced at Lirit's Toronto concert on June 3, 2018, and will receive a $1,500 cash award.

LIRIT WOMEN’S CHAMBER CHOIR - CALL FOR NEW WORKS, 2018

Lirit Women’s Chamber Choir is inviting all composers, either living in Canada or of Canadian citizenship, to submit unpublished works.  The chosen composition will be performed by Lirit during their 2018/19 season. The winning composition will be announced at Lirit’s Toronto concert on June 3, 2018, and will receive a $1,500 cash award.

Led by soprano and conductor, Renée Bouthot, Lirit is a Toronto-based group of experienced choral singers committed to performing music featuring Jewish texts, themes, or composers, and to expanding women’s choral repertoire.

Throughout her career, Bouthot has premiered new works of many composers, including the late Milton Barnes, Srul Irving Glick and Harry Freedman. In its current season, Lirit will perform the Canadian premiere of works by American composer, Andrea Clearfield. These selections are portraits of Jewish women from her oratorio, ‘Women of Valor’.

Requirements for submissions:

  • A musical setting of Jewish poetry, text or theme, OR a new composition by a Jewish composer
  • Language should be English, French, Yiddish, Ladino, or Hebrew (transliterated)
  • Between three and five minutes in length
  • For SSA or SA choir with piano accompaniment
  • May include soprano solo
  • May include writing for another instrument
  • PDF format, unpublished
  • Include a digital recording of the composition
  • Include a biography of the composer.
