Workshops / Ateliers Description

Vocal Technique for the Choral Singer
Christiane Riel (Head of Voice at Ottawa University)
This session will give singers the ins and outs of proper breathing and sound production.

Moving the Music: Begin with the body and the voice will follow
Leslie Bricker
This session will focus on the importance of whole-body movement as a vehicle to explore the voice, the communal choral experience, and to deepen musical expression. Drawing on the philosophies of Carl Orff and Emile Jaques-Dalcroze, participants will interact with rhythm, melody, form, harmony and expressive elements, with an aim to promote personal and ensemble artistry.

We the Board
Kate Batty
This workshop will deliver two modules focused on effective board operations.  Part 1 will examine best practices in facilitating great meetings that engage, energize and mobilize the board. Part 2 will dive into practices to tailor and clarify roles and responsibilities.  These topics will be delivered in a fun and interactive way that helps you find new possibilities for board efficiency and effectiveness.

Warmups / Réchauffements vocaux
Marg Stubington and James Caswell
Warming up can be functional and fun! This workshop will help energize your warmup time.

Drumming from Ghana
Kathy Armstrong

Inuit Throat Singing
Leanna Wilson and Tooma Laisa
Inuit throatsinging is using your voice, breath, and throat to create sounds that imitate the environment, your surroundings, and tell stories. It is only a friendly competition and often it is done with two partners, the leader will start first and the follower will come in half a second after. This workshop will teach you the basics of throatsinging and to do so yourself.

Combating Performance Anxiety
Kyle Stewart
Are you looking to take your performance to the next level? Has stress or performance anxiety ever stolen your ability to perform at your potential? “Combating Performance Anxiety” is an experiential workshop that will introduce participants to the common psychophysiological responses to stress while too providing hands-on practice in developing the mental skills used by the best in the business! Enhance awareness over your particular performance stressors and become educated in a variety of techniques suited to helping you find your optimal level of activation.
